I'm already positive 2016 will be another slow year for me - I can already feel my disinterest in keeping up with everything new.
But as is, I still hope to keep up with releases that from artists I already like. And so there's this. From the beginning of me hearing about this new one I've been a bit cautious with it. Superficially, I don't like the album name or album cover, the latter being something I usually like from them. And the one single I heard pre-album ("Quiet Americans") was a bit of a let down for me. So my anticipation has waned a bit. But now that I've actually listened to it (albeit 1 and half times), I can't say I'm disappointed. It's still the direction I figured from the single - more outgoing than my favorite albums of theirs, but probably in the best way. My biggest worry was that it would tread into Reflektor-eque territory, which is something I quite honestly don't like. But it doesn't. It still feels like a Shearwater record, and I'll be honest, that's all I wanted here. I'm not looking for earth-shattering innovation or experimentation. I just want a solid Shearwater album. And this does it for me. Satisfied.
These guys are the ultimate comfort zone band for me.
