Yeah, this topic is new to me...so, here are my choices:

#1 - Radiohead
#2 - Kanye West
#3 - Jimmy Buffett
#4 - Eminem
#5 - Dave Matthews Band

I think Jimmy Buffett's popularity baffles me most of all. He always sells out two back-to-back shows in my area. But, then again, I never saw a sober person leaving his concerts. I think that's the key...stay drunk during his performance.

Huh, you know I wouldn't have thought of Jimmy Buffet but he's actually a good choice, he's sold an astounding number of records considering how absolutely talentless he is.

Interesting topic, I agree in the fact that many of the most important bands in the history of rock are overrated and that doesn't make it wrong to like them. Beatles for example, an excelent band but many people just throws flowers at them without actually understanding the greatness of their material or their musical contributions. Radiohead is another huge example, I've been a huge fan of them since The Bends, they are in my top 5 bands and that is never gonna change, but I hate the fact that people that know nothing about music come and tell me how fucking awesome they are just because and I will never care if a guy that shows he knows his stuff tells me they don't like Radiohead because it is not necesarilly for everybody and there are a lot of other bands worth it.
Using this site as reference there are two bands that keep popping in a lot of charts and they are shitty at best: Mogwai, just pure pretencious noice and never in the level of real post rock acts like Slint, Sigur Ros or Ride and Interpol a band that has made a carreer of poorly imitating Joy Division and keeps getting accolades for doing so, really anoying...
Mars Volta is also overrated, they did an interesting concept first album and then just dedicated to jam and improvise and excessively overproduced their albums and they were never in the level of what they did as At The Drive-In. I could continue with thousands of bands on and on but in the end they are just opinions, it seems the sistem of the site quickly overrates albums around here and something should be done, example I love Arcade Fire's Funeral but the fact that it is ranked top 10 of all time over Exile on Main St. Kind Of Blue or Pearl Jam's Ten among others is simply not believable and ridiculous, I mean where is the legacy come on.. Anyway just sayin... no offense intended to anyone, I've seen many people in this site are quite sensible to different opinion around here...

So, forgive me but...it's not that the music of The Beatles and Radiohead is not as good as the praise it gets, it's that people who don't know as much as you about music like them that bothers you.

I hate you. I hate you with every living part of my being, forever. I LOATHE you.
Of course, I respect your opinion, and I do appreciate that you clearly explain your reasoning.
But I still despise every living cell in your body. No, even the dead ones.
I hate your dead cells.

Also, Mars Volta doesn't "jam" or "improvise", in fact, everything they do is planned, though just a tad bit erratic.

Also I hate you.

I could say yes and no and give a huge explanation but no I think you nailed it, it is not that they don't enjoy it as I do but when they tell you they enjoy you can actually feel it means something to them just as it does to you even if it is for different reasons, I've always loved Beatles and Radiohead, I just don't like their music to be taken lightly, for example when Radiohead finally came to Mexico everyone was talking about it, I was excited but not that excited because I had the oportunity to see them live a couple of years before, when the concert came most people didn't knew most of the songs... It was like what the fuck?? You say u like Radiohead but you've never heard My iron lung?? What's your basis?? It's not like it was a b side or a track from Amnesiac... But people didn't react, that is what I don't like and that is why some artists become overrated

Understandable, everyone hates them.

Will you shut the fuck up about Radiohead already? You know there is lots of other great music out there? Everybody here either likes or hates radiohead, stop shoving it into every post. SO there your favorite band, you don't see Polythene Pam talking about Bob Dylan in almost every music related post, or Jhereko, he shuts the fuck up about The Flaming Lips most of the time. 🙄 ok, sorry if that came off harsh.

Yeah and it's not like GARY is constantly talking about his fav- okay I may not be proving the point I think I am...
