How to annoy your girlfriend: the unabridged version.
Still listening to this, obviously (took a short break after each part in order to do some shit around the house, just starting up part 3). Just popped in to say that the first two parts are really excellent. They seem like a really cool mix of lots of different stuff from the band's past. Like, there's some manic, dense, kinda noisy stuff, some really cool subtly melodic elements, some deliberately ugly sound design stuff that gets carved up to form the basis of tracks, some jarring glitch moments, and even the vaguest traces of funk creeping in at times during that first part. It took me a while to get into Exai (I'm not an Autechre stan, but I'm familiar the most of the studio albums), but this seems far more immediate. It might be that it isn't as opaque as Exai, or it might just be that my tastes and tolerances have moved on since that album came out, but this is really cool stuff. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
