Really? Interesting. Well that's prettymuch how I feel about his playing: overtly flashy and excessive.

That's an interesting viewpoint. It's one I rarely hear because all of my guitar player friends worship David Gilmour. I enjoy him, but I don't play guitar, I play drums so I have a different viewpoint. Either way it's satisfying to my ears for the most part. I have never thought of it as overtly flashy, but one thing I can say is it is certainly self-indulgent. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

Yeah I would agree with this.
Though I will say that I love Syd Barret's playing on the early records. The playing certainly contains more depth, to me.

Can't disagree. I personally really like both playing styles. Syd's is a little overshadowed though unfortunately. I also enjoy both of their tones.
Oh and Johnny Greenwood is cool too. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

While I think DSotM was more innovative considering the time it was released... I just like Kid A better.
A little less of what I'd consider "filler" on Kid A I guess.
Both solid records... Just in slightly different ways. _________________ "If I could just leave my body for a night.... FJSDKFJKAJFKFJKDSFDKSJF"
