I have about 40 albums left for the 2000s, but wanted to post this here. Might do this for my other decades as well, but it is my old rank vs new rank and some are quite drastic to what I guestimated back in 2012 or whenever it was. Even if my rating=ranking system isn't perfect, I do feel it better represents how I "truly feel", even if taste and opinion are almost never a constant.

I had albums on my list that I now rate below an 80 and it looks like I had 23 such albums.

After listening to/surveying 220 albums, I finally finished my 2000s and on to kind of why I wanted to do this anyway... understand the 2010s better.

Here is the updated one. I think I'm happy with it, but still am not sure. This decade had a lot of nostalgia for me. This time I realized that maybe I liked things for those types of reasons more than it was actually good.

Hi Seth, good list but I,m still baffled by the high average scores on your tracks and albums: 45 albums with an average score of 90 or more. I suppose I'm a bit too much the opposite.
There are a few artists in your chart I don't know at all: As tall as Lions, ale I Murdoch, juanes .

I noticed that too! I think 45 albums are 90+... hhaahha. Definitely not a science.

I don't always agree with myself even. I think nostalgia got in the way.

There's a chance that I spent more time listening to those albums with rating of 90+ more than any other albums and might be why those ratings are a bit inflated.

As tall as Lions are easily one of my favorite "newer" artist. Unfortunately they broke up after that album.

Alexi Murdoch for me is part nostalgia (I helped print some of his stuff) and part he's a damn good singer/songwriter. I feel he is almost on par with some of the greats.

Juanes... this might be a little nostalgia too. I worked in a Mexican restaurant and this album played a lot and then when I worked for the same printing company that printed some things for Alexi Murdoch, I was the only gringo and this album was played a lot to. So I grew a liking to it, even if I don't understand whats said. If nothing else, the guitar work is PHENOMENAL.

Now that I'm on the 2010s, I am embarrassingly struggling to get through the top 100... and totally skipping albums that I will revisit/get to know hopefully better some other time... sometimes I'll listen to the first 3 songs and just can't do it. It's funny cause all the other decades are spot on for me from the BEA rankings... a little harder to really agree with 2010s though... not all of it of course, but even albums that I thought I'd give a high rating, I ended up not doing so.

I think I'll really need to slow down and get to know it more... dunno... has never been such a struggle. Usually it's like love at first listen and not in a bubble gum nothing with staying power way either.

Like the first time I listened to In Rainbows I about crapped my pants... I just don't get that feeling anymore... is it I'm an old fart of 31 or has the quality of music slightly degraded OR are people just trying new things and sometimes it clicks and sometimes it doesn't? Dunno.

Enough annoying emoticons?

Well... I've listened to few albums into the 2010s and am getting that overwhelming feeling again... it is a time when my favorite artists have become too safe and borderline boring. Not quite terrible Rolling Stones in the late 80s/90s terrible... but you know it is on the horizon and then anything I try and pick up new I can't really say I've fallin' in love with it.

There's got to be a new artist debuting past 2010 that really speaks to my soul.

Although I do most associate with "dad rock" (which I feel is almost anything pre 2005), I feel I have a connection with A LOT of music from the 1500s until the 2000s. 2010s just baffle me somehow.

One thing I've noticed I have a hard time with is that I feel the artists are often trying to NOT have a catchy hook, melody, rhythm or beat. The melody is a boring 3 whole notes or something... drives me NUTS. It's like they think being as elementary as possible is the thing. And maybe they are right... maybe that's what this decade needs, but I don't like it. It doesn't peak my interest in my soul or intellectually. It's kinda like that the "ugly" is the new pretty or whatever... it's like shit music is the new good music.

Ok emotional rant over.

I realize that is maybe only 10% true and I think I just need to give myself some time.

And no I'm not advocating that the 2010s suck and there's no good music in the 2010s, I'm just saying I'm finding it hard to fall in love with it.

Alt-J is a great example. I find him both very intriguing and very dull at the same time. Tame Impalla is also very intriguing but haven't really fallen in love with it... it's like that new band that is kind of cool for a year and then everyone forgets about them (I realize they aren't that band, but imagine that band and how you feel about them, and that's where I'm at right now).

I will listen to 300 or more albums to find fantastic music in this decade.

Last decade I felt there were TONS of great albums so much so I embarrassingly have like half of my 2000s album ranked 90 or higher. Luckily this decade is only slightly more than half over and this year had many great releases I'm looking forward to.

On a personal note, 10% of this could be that around the same time I had major depression (like stay in bed for 2 weeks straight depression) correlates with when I lost interest in new music, so maybe this plays a role? Dunno.

I decided to update my Hip-hop/rap list with what I've listened to so far. 75 rating or above. Probably the last 5 or so I'm not crazy about being there, but the first 30 I'm pretty sure of.

Please mock me with suggestions: (wasn't crazy about Madvillian, but willing to try it out again).

I think the 2010s are finally growing on me... some stuff, like this album I listened to for the first time maybe a few months after it came out and my first impression of it was it was boring/lacking anything really memorable, and at times sounded to dissonant to be truly interesting to me... like they were trying to hard.

Anyway, I like a few songs of this record now:
