First, this is probably the furthest from my aesthetic as possible...
So thanks for the rec and I think we are all mature enough to know that tastes are different so this shouldn't offend you... but hey, most people send a rec in hopes that it will join them in the bonds of rec giving and love of music.
I like metal, but more the punk metal type and less the hair metal type (probably using all the wrong terms, but that's maybe saying I like more the master of puppets and sounds a little more punk metal in my opinion) and this is more the hair metal type. PM me a bombastic pulsating punk metal album if you so wish. Also like that they are German. Read up a bit on them as a super group?
This reminds me of when my mom used to make me listen to and then go see in concert Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Or Meatloaf. I mean nothing really wrong with that stuff, it just doesn't interest me.
I will admit that it started out slow for me (not tempo, but interest) and I was like WTF, but then it wore on me and I started to see why someone would like it. The Haunting and Seduction of Decay were probably the best tracks (IMO). The Haunting had the most interesting vocal/lyric because it wasn't your typical hair metal style.
Also this is very vocal/guitar focused and the rhythm section is barely there to just give support to the 754975498 minute guitar solos (of course I'm joking)... so that might by why it is a turn off to me. There's not really an interesting drum part or bass part in of itself. Of course there's the gratuitous double bass drum fill, but I'm talking about drums/bass that are a unique voice.
I only pay attention to lyrics probably 20% of the time (somehow they really get my attention and other times they are just part of the melody to me and the words themselves don't matter). So if this has a really interesting message, I didn't catch it.
IDK... Even though this is amazing musicianship, I am not crazy about this aesthetic. Some how it really bores me and I immediately am prejudiced with anything that sounds like hair metal and it reminds me of this guy:
Batio is a stage monkey and it is kind of insulting to even suggest he is like Sammet in the slightest; the comparison is not even close to remotely sensible at all— not to mention they come from two completely different worlds. If I had been asking you to check out a new Rising Force album you might’ve been in the ballpark but alas I was talking about Avantasia— a power metal band/project, not hair metal. You are however on point with the Meatloaf comparison considering Tobias Sammet wrote a great deal of these songs from what I can tell for Meatloaf and the ones he didn’t certainly wanted to have inspirational nods to the artist in question.
There is nothing “typical hair metal style” on this record. It all comes from neoclassical and symphonic power metal.
Or has it expired after six months? Because after that first song, it's hard for me to stick with an album that really isn't my thing from last year that isn't even in the RYM database 😜

I was just saying what came to mind... as I mentioned before, I had no intent to offend. My ignorant self truly doesn't understand or hears a difference between Meatloaf, Batio, Sammet, Or Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Having said that, super glad you taught me the difference between what I thought was hair metal as more a neoclassical/symphonic power metal. (Neo-Classical/Symphonic Metal I get, but power metal... I need to look that up).
My brother went to USC school of music and he actually said that Ozzy Osbourne is actually respected in the music world as a specialist of medieval music, who guest lectures at USC at times, as well as other universities. Somehow I respect his aesthetic way more... dunno why really.
You gave me a few metal bands that were really interesting a while back (songs) and this is a genre I'd like to know more about. I feel metal borders laughable to dead serious at the same time (to me). Those that achieve the kickass metal feel without being leather pant hair metal laughable deserve serous respect. Even Slayer I laugh at because I feel it tries to hard (even though the speed metal they can do is just amazing), whereas early Black Sabbath feels truly eerie. For Slayer... it really could be I laugh because of sensory overload (I've learned this is a defense mechanism of mine which sometimes gets me in trouble cause I laugh at the wrong things).
But again, this is coming from a guy who hasn't spent the hours learning about metal as you have, and you totally deserve respect for that. Thanks again for the rec... and teaching me something new.

This album was fine. Didn't exactly blow me away, but it wasn't bad. Sonically, it feels like an album with Chris Martin writing songs for Jeff Buckley to sing and The Edge to play guitar on. I think the album can be a little melodramatic at times, but I give them credit for trying to be a little experimental at times. It strikes a decent balance between the experimental and the melodramatic. Not a bad album, but not necessarily one I think I'll come back to frequently.
Huh... I'd think more Radiohead or Elbow before U2 or Coldplay (mostly because of the rhythms used)... although now you may have ruined that album for me because the vocal style does sound a bit Chris Martin like... dammit. ahhaah.

oh man I had a great time with this. Honestly some of the most just straight fun high energy party rap (miami bass or otherwise) I've heard in awhile. Not really the kind of album that needs some kind of in-depth analysis seeing as it's a pretty straightforward affair, but it kicks ass at what it does. Thanks Charlie 😄
