A near perfect mix of It's Too Late to Stop Now...-era Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, and the kind of dense, anthemic post-punk peddled by The Church or The Bunnymen at their poppiest. Heart-on-sleeve, endearingly earnest, Big Ideas rock music that sweeps all before it. Whilst it feels harsh to pinpoint any one song on an album this consistently fantastic, 'The Whole of the Moon' in particular is just one of the greatest songs ever made. Nothing about any of this album is remotely cool, but there's a carefree nature and an undeniable passion at work here that makes it impossible for me to resist getting caught up in the grandiose upsweep of it all.
