I saw the cover of that Crimson Glory album and thought I was going to hate it. Looked like some typical early 80s not-really-metal hard rock album. However, I really liked it - reminded me a lot of Iron Maiden with the high pitched vocals and literary references.

Problem is, Watching From a Distance turned out to be even better and got my vote. I'll definitely be listening to both again but massive, plodding doom metal appeals to me more.

In one corner we have an influential and important part of the progressive metal canon, and in the otherโ€ฆ we have a modern doom metal album that is as uninspired as it is bland. For me, itโ€™s not a difficult choice to pick Transcendence by any margin of thought. If it was a stronger doom metal album or an actually good one (such as anything from Candlemass, Cathedral, or Sleep) I would probably go against Crimson Gloryโ€™s strongest album of their four album discography. But since Transcendence is up against Watching from a Distance... I wonโ€™t.

Haven't managed to finish either album (will finish them eventually, it's just that I've been really busy lately), but I definitely like Transcendence a hell of a lot more than Watching From a Distance. That album was bleh.

Vote for Crimson Glory.
