This is actually a pretty close call for me. Both pretty good albums. I have to go with The Doors, but I'm not sure I can fully articulate why.

Overall I think I listen to Piper more than TD... but The Doors has Break on through, the cristal ship and THE END. Can't beat that.

I think I'll give slight edge to Piper. Neither are their respective artists best.

I went with The Doors. Piper at the Gates of Dawn is among the greatest albums of the 60s but The Doors is among the most stunning and flawless works of art of the 20th century.

Both represent very different takes on psychedelic music, I tend to prefer the Doors' sound though.

Piper is awesome. You can't beat Syd Barrett imo. But the Doors debut is a great piece of work too. Both albums are excellent. The Doors is my fav Doors album but Piper is not my favourite Floyd album, that accolade goes to Wish You Were Here.
I say Piper.
