you should start a country appreciation thread Very Happy (similar to the blues and various metal ones that there are) because for those of us unacquainted with 'good' country it could be useful.

That's actually a good idea Jhereko Shocked

Seriously dude, you have a good idea with the country music. Personally, I used to listen to country music more than rock for many years. I like the country music of the 70's in particular.

Uhhhh.. Anyways:

Bork wrote:
I have albums by Skillet and Red, both of which are labeled christian rock (both of which, also, are not very good). I am not sure what makes them christian rockers as opposed to regular post-grunge maulers though.

I actually like Red Embarassed

The way I see it, I don't really notice a difference between strictly Christian bands or not, until somebody tells me. I don't go out of my way looking for them, but I also don't cast them out if I find out that a band is Christian. I would not have known that Red was a Christian band just by their lyrics and sound.
I mean, religion is a large part of society, so it is only natural that songs are made about it.

How could anything interesting ever come from being apart of the herd unless they decide to break codes and the ethic system such as what Kanye West, Johnny Cash, etc. did. They're probably constantly scared shitless due to the mythos they believe  This is lyric-wise speaking of course.

As for the instrumental portion, Avro Part and Mozart created some pretty intense pieces influenced by "the heavens" and it's counterpart. Of course, it's controversial what Mozart was in the religion department.

So it seems that most "christian rock" bands don't go very far is because modern music, or more specifically rock music, values lyrics...and as I explained, they lack lack lack.

Ya, beatnik I don't claim to have the answer about why Christian music is not really good in the modern day. But I do have a few thoughts after your post because I am a Christian.

You say that "Christians are boring people with a herd mentality. Well, I beg to differ beatnik for my life has been many things but "boring" is not one of them.

I assure you that I am not "scared shitless" of ANYTHING. My God created the universe and is all powerful so what is it that I would fear with God at the wheel in my life?

As far as what you state as Christians having a "herd mentality" rest assured that I am just as much of a non-conformist lone wolf than any non-Christian out there.

But what I really wish to address is not your blanket descriptions and false beliefs about Christians. I want to use the endless wisdom that is beatnik for analysis of why Christian music is worthless for it's lyrics "lack, lack, lack"

Are you aware of the 1,000's of songs in rock music that have Biblical quotes in the lyrics?

Just one more thing there O' wise beatnik if you would be so kind and answer a question for dumb old boring, scared shitless, Christian me.

Could you inform me of all the great rock music that has been made by the BILLIONS of people in these other religions?

(1) Hinduism
(2) Islam
(3) Buddhism
(4) Taoism
(5) Confucianism
(6) Shinto
(7) Sikhism

I can't seem to find albums from these religions on the greatest albums of all time list.

O well, it must be what you have said beatnik. They must be scared shitless and boring people with a herd mentality also then. Ya, that's the ticket.

Are we all forgetting about the famous hindus George Harrison and Ravi Shankar? And of course, Cat Stevens is a muslim. Tina Turner and Leonard Cohen are famous buddhists. These are all off the top of my head here, but I'm sure there are more.
