I realise this is a bit of a cheat since this album is already in the top 10 of this year and may have heard it already, but I'm still very surprised how good this turned out to be. Even when some of the more "acclaimed" artists released their albums this remained my AotY for now, and I'm didn't even listen to Ryan Adams prior to this.
Here he effortlessly managed to create an album both heartbreaking and easy listening, the lyrics are bleak yet the overall sound is so warm and inviting. His voice is sublime throughout the record. I believe this will stand with the other great breakup albums in time.
