I love it - like that it's upbeat and a real contrast to his last album, which I too really liked. As I said in my rating it may not be the album a lot of Beck lovers expected, but it doesn't make it a bad one.
The last three 2017 vinyls I've bought were this, Arcade Fire's and Goldfrapp's new ones and they've all got that 'lighter' feel to them - is it a time/circumstance thing or just coincidence?

I've wondered about the lighter thing too. Both Foo and QOTSA got a pop producer too. Other examples.
Don't get me wrong, I totally get why this album would be a turn off to the typical Beck fan. He's done pop before, but NOT this type.
Seventh Heaven is at times a bit cringe worthy... so again, totally get it.
BUT these really grew on me to be absolutely fantastic Beck tracks

I love Beck, Guero, Modern Guilt and Sea Changes are my favorite albums from him. I wasn't really excited after Wow came out, I loved Dreams on first listen from the single, but then on the album they went and edited it to make the album clean. Fuck capitol records. Things have changed since signing to a big label...and not for the best.

haha
All the versions of the album I've seen have both versions of the song... but funny nonetheless. What's funny is I've been on the look out for the F bomb or whatever marking it explicit and after probably 20 listens this year I still haven't picked up on it.
I actually love WOW in a Nicotine Gravy kind of way... Giddyup!

It's good but I don't think Beck has been truly relevant since Sea Change. And for me, even that album does not equal the major splash that was Odelay. Just my opinion...
And all this is not to say that I haven't enjoyed tf out of other Beck offerings like Guero, The Information, Modern Guilt... _________________ Top Canadian songs, keyless entry remotes, home care, whatever...

This is probably true.
As I get older I don't even know what relevant means... hahaha. Relevant to what? Cultural impact, album sales, whether teenagers like it? I really don't even know.
If we are talking about whether random people sampled know a Beck song, to be honest it likely would only be Loser... (likely thanks to the radio and stuff like Glee).

Not really all that crazy about his poppier direction, but overall the album is pretty pleasant. There are some nice vocals and instrumentals, but it feels way too overproduced. Some of the songs work quite well, but Dreams stands out as one of his best songs in years, Wow works pretty well as a quirky little number, and Up All Night is a fun pop tune. _________________ Stay noided
