Well, it has been like 40 years since Zeppelin made an album. God knows how many bands sound like Sabbath. I always thought it was weird that there weren't MORE Zeppelin clones considering how much Sabbath still dominates so much of metal.
But the thing is, I've never heard such a blatant, bold face, fuck you to the idea of original music than Greta Van Fleet. They are essentially a Led Zeppelin dress up band that doesn't play any of their actual songs. Not even Airbourne sounded as close to AC/DC as Greta does to Zeppelin. I just wish that the rock bands that are becoming huge actually aided in the progress of popular music and were applauded for crafting their own sound, not recycling ideas from older, better bands. Anytime I hear anything about Greta on the radio or from fans around here, it has nothing to do with the quality of their music.. it's that "They sound EXACTLY like Zeppelin." That's sad to me.
There was a Zeppelin and they were great, nothing wrong with bands being influenced by them or any other artist, but to be damn near a xerox copy? Nope.
I agree big time with what Anthony Fantano has to say here.
"At what point does a band just sound too much like another band for people to kind of get on board? I'm not really sure, I don't think there is a definitive answer to that question. I know there's a particular line for me, and in my opinion Greta Van Fleet crosses it. They cross it really hard. Really unashamedly. They're like back-flipping over the line." _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.
I tried saying Greta Van Fleet were rip offs a couple months ago here and got crucified.
What do u mean? I didn't know there was anyone beside me on the forums who even like Zeppelin. lol.
And I LOVE Wolfmother. Especially that first album, but the second's good too. They're GREAT live!
Yes, I saw Wolfmother at a festival a couple years ago and they were tight. Great first album. There's not a ton about them that screams Zeppelin to me though.
No, I agree. Just great hard rock.
Originality is great, but I learned a long time ago that imitators can also be great. If we only listened to music that was new and original and unique, we wouldn't have much to listen to. Since so little music is innovative and original. great records can be either original or derivative.

I don't know how much I agree with this part. I think there can be something innovative about everything that's out there (okay, maybe not all the time but more often than not) and that there isn't anything wrong with hearing elements of the respective artist's influences on an album. As music is just a reflection of life and life's influences. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.
Good music can be derivative and there's nothing wrong about that. But I agree with AAL2014, Greta Van Fleet really do no offer anything even remotely new and interesting, everything is a LZ ripoff. _________________ All time
