Depending on which kind of music you liked, the 90s were almost as great as the seventies or 60s. It was great for electronic music if you like that kind of thing, if you liked Indie or alternative or grunge it was also great for that type of thing. Britpop, Hip Hop, shoegaze, pop punk, all these things had humongous heydays in the 90s. Almost all my favorite albums are from the 90s or the 70s.. so it's hard to be for pick a single 90s hear. So I picked 1997 just because my charts have more albums from that year than any other year in the 90s. But any year between 94 and 99 are awesome.

Warp records 1997 output alone has me considering throwing a vote there:
Autechre had Envane, Chiastic Slide, Cichlisuite. Squarepusher had Big Loada, Hard Normal Daddy, Vic Acid. And then if you're counting compilations there's Burningn'n Tree from Squarepusher and Broadcast - Work and Non-Work. Aphex had Come To Daddy, Plaid had Not For Threes, there's a solid Phoenecia release too. Like yeah they had some Jimi Tenor stuff too but this stuff right here is some of my absolute favorites from these artists. But yeah there's a lot of good years here to consider, I'll have to think about this one.
That said, I do admit some (relative) lack of knowledge as my first child was born in '94 and my life changed in a way that seriously cut back on my listening, collecting, and concert going. But after my children grew, I tried very hard to get caught up, but could find little to love from the mid 90's through the mid 2000s. . the very best of the
I had a similar experience once parenthood came into the equation, and had to work hard at finding stuff from 2005 onward to like. I did find a lot to love in retrospect, but it doesn't necessarily seem to correlate with what was generally popular at the time.

Again, very similar to my experience. I have found stuff to like, but there is very little correlation to what was popular at the time. My nineties charts have almost no overlap with overall BEA charts from that decade.
It could change at a moments notice. My most listened to years are 94 and 95, but I think I'm going to have to go with 97.

I think I'd have to go with 1996. You've got Pinkerton, Soundtracks For The Blind, Everything Must Go, Through Silver In Blood, Endtroducing, Far Away From The Sun, some really amazing albums.
