I don't really know the first half of the list, and don't particularly like the incredibly commercially successful second half of the list, but I find it interesting nonetheless. From 1980 on, he didn't really make that many records. That Romeo's Daughter record sticks out as one that didn't get any traction, and it's a complete mystery as to how or why he made a record with Yo La Tengo as Condo Fucks?

Very true. It's got to be a good matchup between producer and artist. With a certain type of artist, it's really appropriate to have the kind of producer who likes big extravagant productions with umpteen instruments. But some artists are better off with a producer who keeps it simple with just a few instruments.
