Incredible mature song from the Pupps. The ENTIRE album is just incredible. In a way it's a perfection of their one of a kind sound. Can't believe it's on less than 10 charts. But considering I just started listening to this yesterday, I can. Just interesting how some albums get overlooked collectively.
I've just finished listening to this album by coincidence and it's a solid album worth including in my top chart of the year but not very high. I didn't find it on Apple Music so had to revert to Youtube.
The best tracks are Sam and Another Moon but I don't think you'll be able to convert me to country with That's How It Goes. It's not a bad song but I don't know: In Belgium we have a lot of schmalz with these kinds of humpapa rhythms which also figures a bit on this song and I think that's what makes it less interesting for me (and the same goes for that last track).

The great lost Husker Du album that was actually released and toured behind but no one paid attention to. My friends back then knew. The Husker Du worshippers I hung out with. But, did I listen to them. No! Because I'm an idiot. Don't be an idiot. If you LOVE Husker Du, well you've just receive the greatest christmas gift in the whole world. I've been listening to this on my walkmen as I shovel my car out of this Midwestern blizzard we've gotten over the last couple of days, and it totally brings me back to the sound of the American Underground in the mid to late 80s. Trying to figure out how this is only on two people's charts. We're all lemmings. Don't be a lemming.

Thx Tilly and I can only agree but just wanted to let you know that I also love (and maybe even more than GH) Bob Mould's farts. His solo albums just after Husker Du are in my opinion also underrated on this and other sites and had an incredible emotional depth (other people would maybe call it self-pity and revengefulness).

Oh. You misunderstood. I LOVE Bob Mould's first two solo albums (especially Black Sheets of Rain). I just meant in the US music press Bob Mould became the face of college rock in the late 80s after Husker Du disbanded whereas Grant hart got no press at all. Bob Mould was constantly in the news back then. I was not referring to his album which are indeed quite good.
Man. What an amazing & intense song. Somehow watching the video underlines that fact. You can already feel the separation in energies between Kristen Hersch & Tanya Donnelly watching this video too. Very, very interesting if your a Muses fan.
And I LOVE that the drum break towards the end essentially steals from Led Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin are pretty much the epitome of unhip rn. I grew up on Zeppelin and their mastery of melding blues with rock is unparalleled. No one comes close. Kind of cool that one of the hippest bands from 1991 sneaks in a homage to Bonham and the legends.
But why am I even counting backwards? I realized during the '91 project that I know next to nothing about Sarah Records. It's this giant hole in my music knowledge from this time period. Although their influence can be heard in some of my favorite American bands in the late 80s (such as Galaxie 500), I don't even think I knew that the Sarah records label existed back then. And I love tracing music history. My cds and albums are arranged in an attempt to trace musical genres. Trying to show the complicated family tree of different offshoots by a very nonscientific process of placing certain bands in proximity and order. I love how it ends up looking. Yes I did and it was pretty special and emotional. Yeah The Thekla was a nightclub / music venue on an old boat which was moored in the docks, don’t know if it’s still going but used go there quite a bit as I had a friend who lived in Bristol at the time. The other Sarah gig I attended on the Thekla was this one back in 1992...

Brighter were the closest Sarah came to creating a manufactured band (manufactured might be a bit of an over exaggeration) but both Claire and Matt had a huge input into how the band should sound and often helped produce their material. The album Laurel is lovely btw
Sarah’s very own Shoegazers, also check out their album ‘Untouched’ which is very good. Back in 1990 Sarah also released a single by a band call ‘Eternal’ which was Christian Savill from Slowdive first band and the guitar sound is unmistakable.
