Sometimes the man-machine is my favorite Kraftwerk and sometimes it's not. Heh heh. There's two or three by them that at different times have been my favorite.
Yeah - I teeter on it being my favorite electronic music of all time to it being ok, too. That's funny. I think there was a thread about Kraftwerk in the past that discussed this very issue - they are at the same time the coolest band ever, and the corniest... or something along those lines.

I like most of the albums on that list, but off the wall by Michael Jackson and Saturday Night Fever are totally off base. There's little if any electronic music on those albums. Except for the odd synthesizer or two.The person who made the list must consider any dance or Disco music to be electronic music. But only a very small amount of it was. Today practically all dance music is electronic, but definitely not back then. .
It's almost like electronic music had roots in disco...? So maybe this is why they think it's congruent... idk, just guessing.
It appears Random Access Memories is labeled as such as well which makes perfect sense, but if I weren't thinking about it I'd just call it electronic music mostly because of the band, instead of the album... idk.

house and dance music in general have roots in disco, but the earliest examples of what one might likely consider "electronic music" predate disco by about half a century
That albumoftheyear list is not an actual list that was made by pitchfork, it is an aggregated list based on the individual review scores (all of the ones where the source links to an archived version of the page are because the reviews aren't published anymore), and the categorization of electronic is based on the genre attributes that albumoftheyear has for the albums in their database, and so since Off The Wall has genres which are child genres of Electronic, it ends up in there.
aight so I still think this is way too vague to be a good idea and I don't like it BUT I'm also a complete hypocrite and at least this isn't vaguely racist like the "regional music" one if you can't beat em join em so w/e here's some jams
Yeah, the regional music thread was kinda racist, kinda like a African-American music thread or a Women's music thread, but I discovered lots of different types of things to listen to so I'm grateful for it.

True. And even Euro Disco, which was the electronic disco that most people think of, had its roots in German electronic music of the 70s. Mostly Kraftwerk.
I like how someone chose that Tresor album. I used to have some of those Tresor calculations that came out in the early 90s,, and I love those. They had names with like Detroit or Berlin in the title. At the time I never heard anything like it. They were cool.

Ok cool - I didn't spend that much time looking at it. Good to know.

The regional thread is technically colonialist - but anything colonialist is basically racist. It really is a debacle scholars deal with where on one hand to talk about post-colonialism you have to talk about race and the same goes for feminism, you have to be vaguely sexist, one way or another. This is why many strains of feminism morphed into gender studies or cultural studies to recognize it on both sides.
No actual racism was intended whatsoever in the regional thread, rather a discussion of non-western music as dictated by RYM and Wikipedia. Just want to make that very clear.
