I've never knowingly heard a Chainsmokers song (cool name, though), and Beach House are boring as fuck more often than not, so I don't care who likes either of them, themselves included. The article seems a little silly.

Have the Chainsmokers even confirmed that they're talking about Beach House the band? Part of me thinks they're talking about beach-themed house music and they're reading all the reactions like "who tf is Beach House"?

i think this article is dumb especially bc this writer is like, probably not a music creator, and the chainsmokers have done their thing and (at least for a bit, imo) did it pretty successfully. and like, if this writer happened to/actually does make music, it probably would sound/sounds like ass. like clearly more people are better at consuming music than are making music, as is pretty much the case for any art. tbh im p surprised pitchfork would be down w publishing sth like this, since theyve tried to be more poptimistic the last couple years. go figure.

and, tho not a huge fan of this chainsmokers song, i do like how the chorus goes "darling of mine" -- like that *has* to be a mashup of "D.A.R.L.I.N.G." and "lover of mine", right? not that this mega-beach house fan author noticed that for her article -- or maybe she *did* but didnt want to provide evidence counter to her theory that "maybe a Beach House song was playing in the lobby of Equinox right after the opening line came to Taggart". seriously, what a prick.

As much of the basic bitch Beach House fan that I am and how I agree that for the Chainsmokers, the horrific love-children of Trey Parker and Matt Stone (and not nearly as talented), to reference them in the song was clunky as hell; why is the author surprised by all of this? They've been writing emotionally driven yet clumsily written songs since "Roses", and they've only hammered down on the whole faux-tumblr aesthetics in the past couple years, so it's only natural that they'd go down the route of namedropping cooler artists that so many chart topping stars have done this decade. I agree that treating Beach House's music like it's some kind of t-shirt brand in order to nab these girls (which judging from the song's description seems to have issues far greater than your sad attempts of flirting) is grossly misrepresenting their music for a wider audience, that's just the nature of the beast, I guess.

Remember that time Drake name dropped Ronaldo and now I don't know what to think because apparently that matters.

What kind of article is this.

I don't think I've ever heard a Chainsmokers song, but as someone who enjoys Beach House, I'd much rather have the Chainsmokers enjoying Beach House than dragging them. Beach House are still pretty huge, but maybe it'll turn even more people onto them.

Artists don't make music exclusively for you. There's nothing wrong with... enjoying music... ??? (is that what this article is getting at?)

I haven't heard anything about Beach House has reacted to the track, but I don't think they'll care, and maybe if anything they'll be flattered. They were pretty cool about that Kendrick sample.

Yup. Among other crimes against pop music, many of which you'd probably recognize.
