I really like Car Seat Headrest, and Teens of Denial was probably my #1 from 2016. Twin Fantasy is probably in my top 10 for 2011. Hearing it re-recorded...but the same...was a strange feeling. Like listening to a really good Led Zeppelin cover band: Sure, it's good and all, but it's missing something very important.

I'm slightly surprised at the light bruising Car Seat Headrest is getting here. I love Beach Life In Death, and both versions of the album, and if I hadn't of missed the nomination process I would have chosen a song from this album (Cute Thing).

Yeah I don't hate Car Seat Headrest at all, I really liked his last his couple of albums but haven't been bothered to listen to a self-remake (I heard the original 2011 once) and these songs really are not changing my mind... and I don't think 10+ minutes automatically means "epic". And I just really love Jenny Hval and am indeed under her Spell(s) (I'll show myself out).

This was really tough for me.
I wish JENNY HVAL's vocals were more solid, especially as they came in (it's not that she's not a good performer, rather I was underwhelmed and a bit turned off in juxtaposition to the the intro).
I've never really been able to sit through a car seat head rest album (to my fading memory)... I just feel like the songwriting and vocals and overall experience has been crap... and then this surprise. I actually liked it for the first time.
JENNY HVAL by the hair of my chinny chin chin (song vs song...otherwise easy win).
