Love your work Tilly. Totally fair and valid points from both the reviewer and yourself. I've got nothing to add except to explain why this is one of my favourites from 2010. It was an at-the-time album from my prestreaming days when I could only listen to what I had physical copies of. Their debut album, The Long Now, was already a favourite of my wife and I, and was on heavy rotation in the car cd player, so we got our hands on this as soon as we could. This also became an often listened to album, although I still prefer their debut, even if Theory Of Everything was the more successful album. I always have had, and probably always will have a soft spot for quality alt rock.
Oh cool. Will have to check that one out too! It's definitely the perfect kind of music for the car. And that's awesome that you & your wife have the same taste in music. It's helps out a lot especially if your a music junkie. lol.
Well it looks like youโre doing better than one Australian here. Will be copping that one for sure now.
Great! Would love to get your take. Pretty much all the albums from the tourney have been worth checking out. I'll be doing another one in a few days. Tomorrow I'll doing something from the upcoming Pitchfork Music Fest.

Sounds exciting! Are you going again this year? _________________ Some RYM paraphernalia:
Among the millions of bands giving alt rock and post-punk revival a bad name with shallow, insipid, faceless, and noise-polluted music, Children Collide come across as a rare breath of fresh air at a music dump, ripping through their tunes with an effortless grace that hides considerable songwriting efforts, as well as plenty of energy and big radio-ready hooks that somehow don't require them to sign up for the clone factory. They did their homework, to be sure, with influences ranging from Hรผsker Dรผ and Therapy? on their loudest moments, to Blur and even Kurt Cobain (at his quirkiest) on the quieter ones -- not to mention punk, Fugazi, and Sonic Youth -- but everything is pieced together into a cohesive whole made up of songs that are memorable and straightforward, but that don't lose that independent, jangly, and surly vibe. The band isn't here to kiss up to listeners, it's here to speak to them as equals, and if the audience catches a groove from what it hears, it's a win for everyone. Children Collide still never sounds completely original on Theory of Everything -- this deja vu feeling is likely to be nagging in the back of your mind from track one to track 12 -- but they don't sound like rip-offs, either. The lyrics play a part, too -- the group is less likely to sing about girls than about holes in the universe, and rhymes "fanatics" with "mathematics", but all of this comes across as poetic imagery (only rarely overblown), not naรฏve dross. Children Collide still lack a trademark sound -- something that would make people anywhere in the great wide world snap their fingers and say 'I know them!' by the third note -- but they are one of the better bands in a while to play such catchy music without losing their authentic rock gloom. -AllMusic
BOLD mine.
Well done & enjoyable accessible & catchy alt rock radio that still has an edge. While they do not have a distinctive sound they also don't sound like carbon copies either. Recommended.
Grade: B
RIYL: Foo Fighters, Everclear, Girls vs. Boys
I would rather compare them to a heavier Weezer or Green Day than to Sonic Youth but still a very enjoyable album.
I would be too! Iโm so jealous you guys get to see Stereolab, I really hope they put out some new material. If youโre just going for that one day, I thought youโd be checking out Belle & Sebastian too? _________________ Some RYM paraphernalia:

I got weekend passes!!! So, yeah. Will be seeing Belle too. Those were just the two highlights. Speaking of...
Some bands are just too good to us. So good we just take them for granted. Indie darlings Yo La Tengo are one such band. Stereolab is another. An Absolutely brilliant album which could even be their best. And I'm just checking it out for the first time this week as I get geared up for Pitchfork rolling into town this summer. ๐คก
As others have argued on RYM, this is a masterpiece. Little pop suites that shift sounds & time signatures within each song nevermind from song to song. If you like Stereolab, there is no way in hell you wouldn't like this. It's them doing them. Now I'm going to have to get on their albums that followed.
As I side note, I consider Stereolab as one of the cornerstones of the indie rock sound in the 90s. Right up their with Pavement & Built To Spill & Tortoise. Besides Broadcast, no one does music in this vein as good. ESSENTIAL!
Grade: A+
Further Listening: More Stereolab!, Broadcast

Yeah Stereolab are one of the GOATs for sure. I would say their only essential studio album after this one is Margerine Eclipse. But I donโt think theyโve ever made a bad record. I would put them in the conversation for best discography ever in any genre.
I need to check out their ancestor McCarthy sometime soon. Have you heard any of those albums and if so what are your thoughts? _________________ Join us in the canon game :) / Add me on RYM
