Hi everyone, no hard deadline for rankings has been set yet, and that's something that should be collaborative too. I volunteered to do the calculations and stuff, but this is a group project based on Tilly's idea when it comes down to it. Re-upping these posts from February 7-9:

BayState, when are you planning on running the 2018 Album tourney. We should have this completely wrapped up a month before that starts.

In meantime everyone who wants to participate needs to submit their current rankings by March 31st. This will give us something to discuss and indicate which people are still participating. This is an ambitious project so I expect their will be some attrition. I'm definitely still in though and will make this my focus for the next month.

I was thinking July 1. Not sure yet if that would be the date of starting matches or opening nominations.

So a universal preliminary check-in by next week? Sounds good.

Here are my complete current rankings, in chart form.

I'll keep this up to date all the way until points are tallied.

Thanks! Has anyone else listened to all of them yet?! I haven't. Didn't even know Kylie Minogue was nominated! ๐Ÿซข

Math Battle

Three pretty great post-hardcore albums were nominated for the 2010 tourney. Women's Public Strain is (by far) the most popular. Eddy Current Suppression Ring has the most kiwi rock influences (which I love). And Tera Melos' Patagonia Rats is the most likely to give Fishman a hard-on. What's your favorite?

poop... do i have to pay attention to a nomination somewhere?

Anyway, here's a playlist of 2010s songs I dig and then my albums list:

Top 100 Music Albums of the 2010s by sethmadsen

That list likely needs an update/re-assessment, but neither is it 90% against my taste.

re: Math Battle

Public Strain is great, and the Eddy Current Supression Ring is fun, but Patagonian Rats is a monster.

It's not for everyone, pure Math Rock never has been, but I think there is enough moments of clarity in between the nutty time signature parts to show real songwriting ability. There are some great choruses on this thing that are almost shocking in their, um, poppiness, I guess.

Underneath all of the chaos is atypical indie rock album.

And, like I said earlier, this album makes me happy, just as the cover says.

edit:

just as an aside, the guitar player is a pretty cool dude as well.
