I haven't bothered with the last Alicia yet. The thing is, the consensus seems to be that the new album is her worst so far, and I think I have a good grasp on Alicia since I've heard most of her catalogue, including Unplugged. Add the fact that I believe that the usual instrumentation of her albums does no justice to her beautiful voice, I didn't feel the need to finish her catalogue until now, so I'll do that today. The most notable moments of worthwhile instrumentation are mostly present on The Diary and Unplugged. After she achieved massive success so early in her career, there was less need. If this place really is against her, at least she is in good company. My favorites are not exactly the most popular here either, but I deal with it.

And I thought Mos Def talks too much about New York on "Black on Both Sides" but "NEW YORK" may be mentioned even more on this album, which, as a "flyover stater", is completely uninteresting to me.
That being said, this album is just fine. There's nothing particularly outstanding about it, and there is also nothing else that is mediocre. I really was just trying to cause some more discussion earlier when I said she's shitty (there's far worse of course). 😁 I honestly have not listened to anything of hers since it was on the radio in the early oughts as a child. Except for that terrible "Girl On Fire" song.
She sings well, and sings about important things, but it still all feels way too safe. Not that I go there, but I feel like all of these are probably on rotation for a place like Starbucks. Something to have on that nobody could possibly complain about.
