Been listening to a lot of Rachel's, Penguin Cafe & PCO, Dirty Three & related, Boxhead Ensemble, Popol Vuh for Herzog, and early Brokeback lately. What's some other good chamber rock for films?

Those are some great choices; especially the first two. I'm not good with categorizing specific genres, but maybe try Third Ear Band, Sons of Noel and Adrian, Antony and the Johnsons, Matt Elliott, and one of my personal favorites, Luciano Cilio.

Oh, my bad. Didn't realize you were asking specifically for film music. I need to pay closer attention.

Been enjoying Third Ear Band and Luciano Cilio. Thanks!

That 70s era of Italian minimalism made some phenomenal music. A few others of my personal favorites in a similar Cilio vein:

Prati Bagnati Del Monte Analogo by Raul Lovisoni & Francesco Messina
Three tracks with completely different ideas, but imo flow perfectly together. First track is piano and synth weaving in and out of one another. Second is (i believe) completely harp. Third is chants and rubbing glasses. Otherwordly experience

I Fiori Del Sole by Michele Fedrigotti & Danilo Lorenzini
First half is organ, second is piano. I love the whole thing, but L'Epistola is on another planet. I love the organ sound they captured there

Antico Adagio by Lino Capra Vaccina
Kinda like the cover art suggests, the bulk of this is percussion with i think synth, strings, voice here and there. The title track in particular is gorgeous.

Vinyl's great.

Record collections? Great.

Until you have to move.

Wish me luck.

Yeah, being homeless can really make you want to burn that whole industry to the ground :/

What's going on? Can always pm me.

Good luck with that Hayden and EyeKanFly, sounds like a logistic nightmare.

It's not terrible (no grand piano...), just a whole lotta trips up the stairs. Still getting everything organized a week later ๐Ÿคฃ (need to get rid of some books too...)

Are you me?

I'm moving next week and spent the last 4 days packing my record collection. Just finished up and now have to rely on spotify until I get unpacked lol. Fortunately I managed to donate tons of books over the past few months, so that should go a little smoother.

Are you trusting movers to handle record player/speakers/amps/other stereo equipment? Fortunately I'm not moving too far so I'm planning to bring it in a car with me rather than in the truck, but I'm concerned about banging it all up when I carry it inside and up the stairs.

Yeah, I should have donated a few books. Think I have about 100-150 ish, and at least 10 to get rid of (including a bulky accounting textbook from Uni ).

And nah, all me. Speakers, pre-amp, record player, boxes of records, etc... I also have some paintings. I hire movers to drive, but not actually move stuff into place, etc. It's crazy expensive in Canada. One day's work can be $2000+. App's just one flight, wasn't too bad. Hardest bit was a couch. Everything arrived in one piece ๐Ÿ˜

Good to hear everything arrived in one piece! I broke a mirror and some dishware lol, but the pre-amp made it safely which is what I was most concerned about. That does sound like an expensive move, here in the US mine was much more reasonably priced. I had my movers carry my boxes of records (which I was super nervous about since it was raining!!) but everything turned out ok. Or...I think it turned out ok, everything's fine so far but I'm still unpacking.

I had probably close to 200 books and I was able to bring that down to about 50-75, which I'm pretty impressed with myself tbh. Fortunately I moved further away from my bookstore and closer to the library so hopefully that helps me to stop accumulating so much!

As a reward, I've gone ahead and ordered some more records, next step is to trim down my collection (at this point I have a few duplicates that could probably be sold), I'm considering setting up a discogs shop.

EDIT: agh, accidental double post, sorry.

While I'm here, anyone know of any good places to buy/trade used vinyl other than discogs?
