It clicked! Fantastic pastoral & naturalistic vibe. While taking a different approach, it has the same effect as that Virginia Astley album I fell in love with years back. Or Harold Budd's The Pearl.

Anyone have another rec like this?

Rachel Grimes (or her band, Rachel's), maybe? More piano-oriented, maybe a bit more Americana-ish too, but overall I'd say it's the same sort of vibe.

I LOVE Rachel's! Great call!

I used to get massages on a regular basis in Pittsburgh and introduced my kick ass masseuse to them. In particular, this...

Perfect album to relax to! 😁

really has that sort of noir, late night in the city kind of feeling at times

I think this vibe is a big reason why I dug this more than a great deal of ECM jazz I hear. A lot of ECM stuff sounds (to me at least) very meticulously put together and proficiently executed but in a way that almost feels too restrained by design, like it's always building to something but never quite gets there, even the improvisations often feel cold and measured to me. This still has a certain measuredness to it but I feel like there's also a sense of like exploration, like little bits of the noir city Rocky described are being carefully unveiled as the album progresses. I can see how this could work as like background/chillout music but I found myself surprisingly very focused and just genuinely interested in where it was going. There's a distinct Vibe here that is both tonally consistent and ever-evolving... Again basically just the shit Rocky said. Time to go smoke a cigarette under a streetlight in the rain.
