I had fun with this one. Definitely throwbacky (I think the comparisons to Syd-era Pink Floyd are apt) but there's enough of a distinct personality and enough of a modern tint here that it avoids falling into that Foxygen trap of "what am I not just listening to the original". Was most impressed by the rhythm section here, there's some really tight bass and drum work going on. Songwriting was a mixed bag for me, there's a neat variety of just straight wacky 60s psych pastiche, but you've also got these moments of driving percussion that sound almost krautrocky, and occasionally this like angular guitar work that sounds almost mathrocky (all while being firmly rooted in that Piper at the Gates of Dawn vibe). While I appreciate they threw some sonic variety in here, I have to say the slower, more balladeering bits here feel the least cohesive and are my least favorite. I think they band is at their most comfortable and most exciting when they're more in that Interstellar Overdrive vibe. Either way cool (albeit mixed) listen that I never would've stumbled upon on my own, so big shoutouts Repo I love being introduced to stuff that I would never find otherwise 😉 _________________ A Variety of Artists
