For me it's slightly overrated and overshadowed by albums such as Dexter Gordon's 'Go', Monk's 'Straight No Chaser', Mingus's 'The Black Saint.....', Coleman's 'Shape Of Jazz...', Coltrane's 'A Love Supreme', Adderley's 'Somethin' Else', Lee Morgan's 'The Sidewinder' and a few more.

Admittedly I am not a big authority on jazz (although I have two brothers who are). I have taken the time to listen to and rate a few jazz albums though and of those I have gone through Kind of Blue comes in at #4 after Jimmy Smith's Back at the Chicken Shack, Benny Carter's Jazz Giant, and Ramsey Lewis' The In Crowd. It's definitely a great album and benefits from both pushing boundaries and being highly enjoyable for casual listening. Of the Miles albums I have properly listened to, which granted are not more than a handful, this one is by far the best.

Best track: So What.

EDIT: Oh and yes, I rank this higher than The Shape of Jazz to Come, A Love Supreme, and Straight No Chaser. The others mentioned by Hairymarx I have not heard.

I personally enjoy Miles' funk/fusion albums much more: On the Corner, Live-Evil, Bitches Brew... and In a Silent Way

I have no idea what this album meant for music. I don't even 'get' it.

All I know is that it's a perfect listen.

This is my least favorite Miles Davis album of the stuff I've heard from him.
