Tercermundistas (Union Of The Guetto) by Brinvonda

This record exists only on MySpace Music and Best Ever Albums, IMVHO we should not list it.

Butthole Surfers by Butthole Surfers.

However, it is an EP and should not be included in a best album chart: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butthole_Surfers_(EP)
The other three releases listed by Butthole Surfers are okay they are full lengths albums.

I also looked into the chart of kacey who included the above and the one below in his chart. I am surprised that he can rate his own chart with 100/100 but he is not the only one who rated his own chart.

Punk Comp California- What Is It? Various Artists

I wonder if the record was ever on the market. The only internet source besides Best Ever Albums is 'rateyourmusic' where they have no image and track list either.

Therefore, 'rateyourmusic' name it an issue asking Mr Zoo to edit his entry.

"Punk Comp California- What Is It? Various Artists" ranks in both lists on #24 not #4.

These albums/artists did exist in at least one chart but no longer do (chart was probably updated). The albums exist in the database but are not meant to be publicly visible on the site (there are no direct links to the album/band pages from any of the charts or from the A-Z index). However, Google may have crawled these pages so they may remain in the Google index and so appear in Google search results.

I tend to agree but we already have other instances where people want to vote their own garage band into the list. It will not feature prominently in any of our charts so it's not really a major issue.

The distinction between an EP with 7 tracks and an album is very blurry. We gave this one the benefit of the doubt. It is quite difficult to police everybody's chart without appearing to be too "hands on".

From Wikipedia: In the United Kingdom, the Official Chart Company defines a cut off between EP and album classification at 25 minutes length or four tracks (plus alternative versions of featured songs).

We could certainly add something to stop you voting on your own chart. Personally, I didn't think anybody would want to vote on their chart, but I guess people are doing this for whatever reason.

A few times when a 'new' album has been added to the site it has been difficult to track down. This one has a couple of external references, so do we just delete it and risk annoying the person who added it to their chart? or, do we leave it on the site as it is not doing much harm?

Some good spots (will certainly fix the ratings issue) and some other issues to think about but we are talking about less than 0.5% of albums where these types of issues have arisen. The vast majority have not caused any problems at all. We have to use some sort of discretion and sometimes there is no black or white, just shades of grey.

Did you try to find any of these on Best Ever Albums through Google Search? I wish you good luck!

Anyway, I would not have reported them if the access was through Google that would have been silly. I simply thought you should know and I wanted to be sure that it is not a bug; I thought that maybe some people have Procol Harum or A-ha in their chart. I like them, I saw Procol Harum in concert on the Stones' "Between the Buttons" tour in 1967, and I had a Norwegian girl friend when A-ha was famous. Therefore, I am happy if you leave them in, false is that there is no direct link.

Here is how I got them, go to Search, insert 'Procol Harum' select Band and click Search, voila there it is. I would call that a direct link.

I found 'A-ha' as above, through Search.

I searched 'Neutral Milk Hotel', inserted Hotel and got 'The Enright Hotel'.

The next was a misspelling, searching Jimi Hendrix I wrote Jimmy ...and got 'Jimmy Somerville'.

B.T.W. the link to the image of 'Ten Easy Pieces' by Jimmy Webb is broken.

AFAIR I searched an album with America in the title, left Band selected in Search and received 'America' and 'American Music Club' add 'Trout Fishing In America' to the two for a total of three with one direct link.

B.T.W. no track list for 'The United States Of America', 'The Jazz Composer's Orchestra Of America', and 'The All-American Rejects'.

Sorry, English is only my third language and I need a clarification on this one. I understand that you allow garage bands with none existing albums into the charts, but what is the meaning of "not feature prominently in any of our charts"? Does it mean the first ten, fifty, hundred or the accessible 500 of the overall chart?

Tercermundistas (Union Of The Guetto) by Brinvonda is ranked number 450 in the overall greatest album chart with a total rank score of 421. Tercermundistas (Union Of The Guetto) appears in 5 greatest album charts.

Tercermundistas (Union Of The Guetto) by Brinvonda is ranked number 10 in the best albums of 2008.

http://www.besteveralbums.com/yearstats.php?y=2008

It is 450/500 of the overall chart and 10/100 of the best Albums of 2008 (first page). It rates 100/100 with four votes, six more and it will be first of the Top member-rated albums.

However, it does not exist but it takes only five members or better one member and four Smurfs to push it into the above charts.

Butthole Surfers by Butthole Surfers.

Peculiar, I provide a link where Wikipedia names the record an EP, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butthole_Surfers_(EP) and you answer with a definition from Wikipedia to prove that it is an LP, Wikipedia or that the distinction is unclear.

However, you only quote the special exception of the definition for the UK from one source, Official Chart Company, which uses it as a guideline for the UK charts but they do not have the monopole for the worldwide definition of an EP.

Anyway, Butthole Surfers by Butthole Surfers falls short even by that exception, "...cut off ...at 25 minutes length..." the record has only 17:58 minutes or "four tracks (plus alternative versions of featured songs)" there are only two tracks that could serve as a single (4:36 and 3:36) the other five play between 1:24 and 2:25 minutes.

Butthole Surfers is an American band and list their record as an EP, http://www.buttholesurfers.com/disco.html if you do not trust me, trust the band. ๐Ÿ˜‰

You are right that the distinction between an EP and an album is very blurry with this new Wikipedia definition. As you know registered members can alter the text, qualified or not for the job. The outcome is "a single has around 10โ€“28 minutes", which is false for an 18cm disc, he means maxi single.

Try this original definition, http://www.babylon.com/definition/EP/English

"Extended play
"EP" redirects here Extended play (EP) is the name typically given to vinyl records or CDs which contain more music than a single, but are too short to qualify as albums. Usually, an EP has around 10โ€“25 minutes of music, a single has up to 10 minutes and an album has 25โ€“80 minutes. EPs were released in various sizes in different eras. In the 1950s and 1960s, EPs were typically 45 RPM recordings on 7" (18cm) disks, with two songs on each side."

It makes more sense to me, Single up to 10 minutes, EP around 10โ€“25 minutes, album 25โ€“80 minutes, disregarding the number of tracks. I believe anything less than 10 tracks is an EP.

Initially in the US, the definition of an LP album was 12 tracks, not more and not less. This is why 'Please Please Me' has 14 tracks but 'Introducing... The Beatles' 12, 'With The Beatles' 14 but 'Meet The Beatles' 12. Now they can have more than 12 but I believe not less.

I learnt something; from my mother I have an EP collection from the 1950s and 1960s, 45-RPM recordings on 18cm disks, with two songs on each side. ๐Ÿ˜„

Adding something to stop people voting their own chart would be great. Lately I spotted a chart where the author rated his chart 100/100 and the members rated it down to an overall of 18/100. It was a bad chart but I have seen worse here. He probably left the site.

I thought I made it clear in my two posts before that it is one external reference only; probably it was unclear due to my limited knowledge of the English language. I try again,

Mr Zoo aka Kurt aka Kurt Cobain means multiple links but one reference only.

I hadn't realised people were taking this much trouble to try and game the system! I'll investigate the IP addresses and if it's the same person, all bar one of the charts will be deleted. Thanks for taking the trouble to highlight.

EDIT: Under investigation.

If a member wants to add a release which has seven tracks and call it an album instead of an EP, possibly we're being too lenient? How strict should we be without appearing too over bearing? It is a dfficult balance between policing the site properly and letting people have their individual freedom.

The 'remember me' issue is probably to do with cookies being deleted when your browser closes.

Sure doesnโ€™t make sense to me since your track limitation would cause many classical and jazz albums to be reclassified as EPs. Remember that the term album comes from classical recordingโ€™s history. Suggest you read the entire Wikipedia articles on album, LP album, Extended play, and Single (music).

I disagree. In the USA even a presidential candidate has the right to vote for himself. If you donโ€™t toot your own horn, who will? Perhaps once you publish your own chart you can chime in again on the subject.

That often happens to me also. I thought it was due to my use of CCleaner or Advanced SystemCare but I just ran each of those programs checking my login status after each program run and this time I am still logged on.

BestEverAlbums.com is a website that aggregates over 1,000 different greatest album charts to provide an easy way for visitors to look up and find out the greatest albums in history. While I am sure the site attempts to provide accurate information; it is a helpful fun site for members and visitors not a true refereed reference site. Due to staffing and financing, complete accuracy cannot be assured or assumed.
