Three albums on my wishlist. Does anyone have any opinions on any of these albums, good or bad?
I suppose you know The Bevis Frond is one of my favorite discoveries as I had never heard of them/him before We're Your Friends, Man of 2018, still one of my all-time favorite albums. And although I think only few people in Belgium know the band, I saw them live in a very small venue in Antwerp. Since then I have listened to all (or maybe nearly all because they've made so many) their albums and nearly all of them are top quality including London Stone. I have to say I like (all of) their post 2010 albums better but London Stone is certainly also a must-listen with especially Coming Round as the highlight.
Thanks for responding dihansse. I do really like bevis but have heard nothing from this particular album so your thoughts are really appreciated. Going to make this one a highest priority on this list. Thanks again.
Attended the fabulous Red Rooster Festival so going to be doing a few pieces about bands that saw. First up is Lucy Kitt who played the 2nd stage (Little Red Rooster) on Saturday morning.
London based singer. Lovely acoustic folk / rock songs. Very pleasant way to while away 45 minutes. Worth seeing.
Another Red Rooster gig was Ghostly Hounds. Sounds like a band but was actually one person, Canadian, Francesca Mirai.
banjo playing singer songwriter. I really liked her sound, sort of soulful folk and interesting storytelling. Lovely way to spend an afternoon in the sunshine
Another one here. Only caught 1/2 of Iris Farrer's folk set, which is a shame because she was rather good. Lovely voice, nice tunes a-la Joan Baez. A pleasant way to start the Friday. I really need to get out of bed earlier at festivals!
Another London based performer at Red Rooster was Ella Spencer, multi instrumental singer songwriter.
Best described as Americana and another rather good performance. In fact, there were no duff performances that i saw at RR this year. Great quality festival
Great "raspy" voice a la Janis Joplin or KT Tunstall which I like, delivering some really good songs. Nothing outstanding to make you go wow but very consistent and might become someone of note later in her career.
Georgie Hume & The Pity Party are a afro Cuban calypso style band incorporating a bit of jazz and even some surf sounds into their set.
After a morning of very interesting singer songwriters they go the Red Rooster crowd on their feet bopping to this very enjoyable band. A great way to spend an hour in the afternoon sunshine.
as their music certainly reflects the RL / Junior Kimbrough vibe that I love. Great musicians, great set. Absolutely loved these guys. Need to look out for other gigs that they are playing although, as they are from the US, that might be a little problematic but we'll see.
