A friend of mine has been clearing his fathers house and came across a crate of cassettes.
My mates dad and I shared similar musical tastes so my mate gave me the crate. No idea what's in it except, from a cursory look, a ton of pre recorded tapes and a few self recorded ones.
I'm planning on going through them, playing each cassette and relay what I discover.
First up, an album that I already own on vinyl but great to listen to it again
Danny is Dan Stuart from Green on Red and Dusty is Steve Wynn from the Dream Syndicate. Their backing band featured members of Green on Red, the Dream Syndicate and the Long Ryders including such luminaries as Sid Griffin, Stephen McCarthy, Chris Cacavas & Dennis Duck
Allegedly recorded in one weekend, hence the title, it’s rough but immediate and I like that.
Standout tracks, Song For The Dreamers, Miracle mile and The King Of The Losers
Decent enough complication but not really my sort of thing. Not a lot of variation here, which I suppose given the premise of the album, is to be expected.
I wasn't anticipating very much from this album, infact, if I'm going to be honest, I was expecting it to be dreadful but I was pleasantly surprised.
Nothing ground-breaking or particularly original and some of the tracks are very derivative but it's not a terrible listen. Actually, I rather enjoyed it on parts and I wasn't expecting that.
It has all of the ingredients that I would generally like and A rather U2 feel about this album but not up to that standard I'm afraid. A decent enough album but not really one that grabs me that much
