I was thinking that the Latest Releases post might be a little more interesting if in addition to highlighting releases by artists in the top 1000 it also had a section that highlighted new albums by artists that had released high ranking albums in the last 5-10 years but just haven't been around long enough to crack into the top 1000. As is, there's a lot of highlighting new albums by legacy artists that arguably peaked decades ago (at least by BEA album ranking), while many artists that are likely peaking right now and releasing their strongest albums are getting left in the main list with everyone else. It would be nice if this weekly post could pull some of those albums out of the pack too.

Thanks for the feedback, agree with you, using the top 1,000 artists means the selection algorithm is inadvertently biased towards older artists. It seemed a simple way of doing it when the post was created, but is a bit crude. I’ll look to improve it along the lines you’ve suggested so that releases by newer artists are easier to pick out and get the exposure they deserve. Perhaps we could highlight artists who have previously released an album ranked in the top 40 of any year. That should also capture many of the artists already being highlighted. October and November is generally the most active period for new releases, so the list each week is generally a bit longer than normal.

I noticed the change in the Latest Releases post today. A previous top 100 album seems like a pretty good metric. Thanks!

Thanks, could definitely still do with further improvement but it's a bit fairer than before.
