I’ll get back to you soon RK, I should be active again here very shortly, just got back from spending time away with close friends, gf, etc, without internet/social media. I find it therapeutic from time to time
That's completely understandable. I was going to reach out to check if you were fine but also thought you may've just been on a break or so. Sounds like things are good though
What's your take on the first Mad Max film, especially considering the extent to which it has been overshadowed by The Road Warrior and Fury Road? (Compare their scores on imdb, letterboxd, RateYourMusic) What do you think viewers are missing here compared to those later films?
It’s more “comic book” and spastic, with delirious editing of its violence, somewhere between Eisenstein and Peckinpah.
It’s also far lower budget, indie type film, more homely and less epic/apocalyptic, featuring Mel Gibson less “Americanized” as a hero/action star.
It has more spontaneous rhythm and less telegraphed climaxes and thematic arc.
The acting of the nemesis and cronies is more “comic book” more “clownish”, less “professional”, than the later ones including the vigor in which they’re edited, blocked, given emphasis
Probably for each of these reasons it is less popular than the later, more honed and professional, less spastic or erratic sequels _________________ Best Classical Best Films Best Paintings

Each of the following has valuable insights, occasionally in some disagreement or some alteration of the other, but all worth considering in detail — with each also making points that the other does not. Watching each (even multiple times) will only help one’s familiarization with the work, which is needed with such expressive depth, such a plethora of details, symbolism, etc
And the least famous, least known, of these, but the overall analysis I tend to think of as probably the most thoroughly accurate, or at least the deeper or more “hidden” layer(s) of reading beyond the (somewhat) more “surface” readings…
I do not know if you have been asked this or not, but how do you think Scaruffi's literature scale reflects his music/film scale, what do you think is the equivalent of no plus, plus, 2 plusses, and 3 plusses from his literature scale in his music scale or film scale.

Good question, don’t recall if I’ve been asked this here or not…
I don’t know for sure…
My personal opinion is that it’s probably not super exact for him but just a general guideline until he sorts by more specific ratings
But a rough guess would be something like
6.8/10 to around 7.5/10 might equal 1
Sometimes I think it might be 7.0/10 to as high as 7.9/10 (from various 1s that seem more like 7.6+ to me)
7.5 or 7.6/10 to around 8.4/10 or 8.5/10 might equal 2
Sometimes I think it might be 8.0/10 to 8.9/10 (from some personal selections where some “2s” seem above 8.5 and some probably 8.8/10+)
Around 8.5/10 or 8.6/10 and above might equal 3
Sometimes I think it might be 9.0 and above
I do feel like he’ll eventually organize them into numerical specific ratings, along with Classical and Visual Art, or as he told me when I asked him about those a few years ago “If I live long enough” _________________ Best Classical Best Films Best Paintings

Not sure how long it would take for Scaruffi to add more ratings, but this is a good opportunity for you to begin updating your own and see how Scaruffi's ratings eventually compare.

I don’t have any more to update than are already featured on the Literature link provided (each regular Top 10+ list post).
So far I’m 2 for 2 I guess on Dostoyevsky (C and P, Bro K) — 3 for 3 if we count my brief 8.9 rating of The Idiot (didn’t keep it there though) — but even if these closely match Scaruffi they are still very loose on my end as they are from 20-some odd years ago and remain rough estimates regardless in my own mind
There will surely be ones I get “wrong” as he continues to update (and getting them all the same is not a goal anyway… comparisons are a curiosity and can surely get me to revisit or rethink a work but aren’t the “end in itself”) … If for anything that my Lit ratings are largely based on memory from years back in almost every case — not recent enough for more confidence — and even if they were there is not all that realistic way for me to match his because his familiarity with Lit just vastly vastly outweighs my own
I think the ones that are closer to filling out the bio page will perhaps be sooner than others, like Kafka, Henry James …maybe Joyce … would love to see Shakespeare, Dante, Eliot, Goethe… _________________ Best Classical Best Films Best Paintings

Part of what I meant by updating the ratings was revisiting the works themselves, and reading more to add new ratings. The idea of predicting/guessing Scaruffi's ratings was tongue-in-cheek anyway, as a potential incentive to begin building your Literature list 😜
In any case I highly doubt he'll finally bring out a 10/10 rating even if it's for the Commedia. I do wonder if there exists any artwork he has considered rating a full 10.
