Ys - Joanna Newsom
Is it pronounced as if "Ys" was a plural Y's sounding like "wise"
Or is it pronounced Y S, simply by pronouncing the letters?
Or is it something else entirely?
Thanks :) |
this may have been answered already (just going through this thread) but it's pronounced like eess (like ease without the a part) |
i thought it was pronounced "yes", but nobody i have talked to knows of it so have never been called out on it....

Yeah I thought The Stones were American |
When Elvis died in 1977, I thought that he was Finnish. 🫢 _________________ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNGpsnTCUXM

🤣
reminds me: I used to think Peter Bjorn and John was 3 guys, not 2. #-o |
Speaking of them, anyone else feel that Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks" is just a blatant rip-off of PB&J's "Young Folks"? |
It's a rip-off of anything and everything, but yeah very much "Young Folks". A large reason why I don't understand people defending it. |
Yeah, Torches in general is just a kinda "meh" album overall, I don't know why everyone suddenly has this huge hard-on for Foster the People all-of-a-sudden. They're playing huge, sold-out shows! How? WHY? What is going on? |
You may not have seen one of my various rants about 'Foster The People' but I'll just copy and paste my quasi-review of 'Torches' from the 2011 thread:
| Jhereko wrote: | | Absolute amateur hour. This is the sorta band that would jump on the proverbial bandwagon that was popular in whatever time. They would have been one of the hundred forgettable grunge bands to come out after Nirvana or a shitty punk band trying to emulate The Sex Pistols. But the flavour of the times is: indie or to be more specific indie-dance. They do everything half-assed and half-right, they use the most cliched aspects of indietronica and put it all into soulless, thoughtless minutes of sound. I find 0 appeal in Pumped Up Kicks and am absolutely puzzled as to why it's popular. Worst album of the yeart. All I can say is that it's very likely like all "get-famous-quick-on-the-back-of-a-hyped-genre" bands they'll fall into obscurity (with all but the most fooled fans) within a year. 😠 🤮 ](*,) |
so yeah, definitley do not 'get' them. |
Just the term "indietronica" is enough for me to not to bother with them! _________________ "Bunch of opinionated, hipster twats!"

I once tried to listen to Lil Wayne's rock album ( his first and last rock album)
Biggest mistake of my life.
