Damn, that'd be a tough match. Reel Around The Fountain Vs. The Queen is Dead.
🤔
I actually think I'd go with Reel Around The Fountain...but I'm really not sure 😐 Both are 10/10 tracks.
I voted for The Queen Is Dead (album) for the poll. One of my favourites. _________________ Doubles & Conch

It's a push for me too. Both great songs.

The Queen Is Dead
The Smiths is my 2nd favourite though. It's between those two.

Strangeways here we come.
Both Morrissey and Marr feel the album is the band's best, with Morrissey asserting that, "We say it quite often. At the same time. In our sleep. But in different beds."

As much I love all Smiths albums, I agree with the majority of BEA voters, and if anyone not knowing The Smiths wanted to listen to one album to get a good idea of their sound, I'd advise The Queen Is Dead for starters. The opener is a killer, "Cemetry Gates" was very influential indeed (check out The Sundays or early Cranberries, "Linger" for instance), "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" is my favourite Smiths song, it's almost a summary of everything that was great in this band : brilliant guitars, hilarious lyrics, great rhythm section. Of course, Morrissey indulges in the occasional grandiose pathos ("Never Had No One Ever"), which may not be everyone's cup of tea, but The Smiths were also about the persona of this fascinating singer, and this albums also reflects this aspect of the band's work.
But of course I'm a Smiths enthusiast and love all their albums. Most important band in my life probably.

I like their debut the most, but "The Queen Is Dead" is close.

I'm totally missing your point here. Are you saying that lyric isn't great? Cuz yer wrong. Also it's funny. |
