I actually thought the Mayhem cover was extremely interesting. Like, yeah, it's disturbing and stuff, but for a black metal band, what's more bad-ass than showing your lead singer dead?

It was also pretty risky of them 🫢


Closer is a great cover though, but I just figured it wouldn't be such a landslide.

Apparently (at least according to wikipedia), the photo was stolen and used as the album cover for a bootleg copy of the album, and was never released officially by the band. Or at least that's how I understood things. I stopped reading the article and following links because it all got too depressing... church bombings, band members murdering each other, the suicide.... 🙁 🙁 🙁

Fun fact about that Mayhem cover:

Dead's suicide note (the band's ex-singer, and the corpse pictured) read the following, and only the following:

"Sorry about the mess"

Some pretty great gallows humour right there.

Also, it looks like I'm still the only one who voted for Mayhem... oh dear...

Not to mention the rumours that Eurononymous made a stew from his brain, and gave gifts of necklaces made from Dead's skull to anyone deemed worthy. So messed. Why does a nice country produce such twisted artists? Mayeb I should ask Andres Brevik...
