Alain Resnais just died. I'm a great admirer of most of his work and am very sorry. His new movie is due for release this month.

Any other Resnais enthusiasts? Favourite Resnais movies?

I definetely liked Hiroshima Mon Amour, Night and Fog and Private Fears (though the latter was one of his lighter works), but couldn't really get into Last Year at Marienband... indeed a bit difficult of a director but worth the patience

Not my favourite Resnais either. It's an interesting watch, but it's very difficult to feel moved by this movie. Mind you, others have: I bet Lynch knows this movie by heart, shot by shot. Definitely influential on him.

Okay, so if I wanted to watch one film today in his honour, what should it be? Hiroshima is on my watchlist somewhere, but is there anything else you'd recommend more?

Very sad news. An amazing director.

My favorite of his is "L'annรฉe derriรจre at Marienbad". ๐Ÿ˜œ
Mindblowing screenplay and editing. It changes with each viewing.

I'd also recommend his early, but influential, short movies (Guernica, Toute la mรฉmoire du monde).
