I'll try to be brief as I can with this. I know I normally warble on a bit much when writing new threads and people normally don't know what I'm on about anyway.
I was looking up Auto tune earlier today. I had read about it in an NME article (I had heard of it prior) and felt the need to look up examples and lists of songs which use it.
Listening to some of the examples, I have to confess that I would have never been able to see the... lets say "cracks" without knowing where to look. The thing is some of the songs which use it are good. This apparent bogeyman in music hasn't taken away my enjoyment for some songs.
Observing and listening again I have found that auto tune carries a stigma today. There are people inside the great halls of music who consider people who use auto tune as murderers in the music world. It's like they have killed the guard to get inside while there is a line of people waiting in the cold to get in. They don't consider them artists, merely products of a sort.
Obviously there are cases where it is used in careless ways but what of it as a tool for music? After all it is about 'good songs' above everything else in music.
Dude your late to the party just check out every one man Electropop band in history oh and T-Pain he's the king of auto tune I like auto tune in moderation I have yet to find a band that uses auto tune that I can deal with listening to for more than an hour straight unless mindless self indulgence uses auto tune in which my last statement would be false _________________ Yeah, I'm a trolll

...Yeah, I hate it. Occasionally, it's great to make fun of, but that's it's only saving grace.
Miley Cyrus used auto-tune a bit on Can't Be Tamed, which I thought was decent. But it would've been much better without it.
It's like crappy U2-Softness-Syndome (USS) in albums like Achtung Baby and The Bends. They're both great albums, but if it wasn't for those annoying qualities, they would be nearly perfect.
An abomination to music. There is nothing more annoying than hearing T.I.'s electronically advanced voice wailing and reaching pitches that will make dogs howl, it's all horrible.
One of the worst examples is of course Ke$ha's "Tik ToK" and Vampire Weekend did it on one of the songs on Contra.
I do admit that it can be used as a creative tool. Though, I really haven't listened to a lot of artist who use auto-tune, there are a couple who can carry it off.
sucks in music but makes some youtube videos hilarious. e.g. check out best cry ever on youtube (from intervention) and then watch the autotune version

I'll actually go back to saying it's intriguing. I've heard only album on which autotune was interesting: MBDTF. The Lost in the Woods and Runaway are made slightly interesting by autotune, especially Runaway where Kanye seems to be masking his voice out of shame with a ridiculous amount of the shit (it's like feedback for autotune). Anyways, I've yet to come to love, or even really like, it by any means
