When actor Christopher Walken trained as a music-theater dancer, he surely couldn’t have imagined that he’d one day be putting his delicate skills to use at an L.A. hotel on behalf of a British DJ and musician. But that’s exactly what went down, thanks to Spike Jonze, who rented out a Marriott and instructed Walken to dance and fly around the building. If you’re wondering what Fatboy Slim, a.k.a. Norman Cook, looks like, his portrait adorns a wall 2 min. 24 sec. into the clip. What elevates the video above mere novelty are the small touches — Walken eyeing up some laundry, ringing a bell, slipping on the elevator. If they handed out Oscars for music-video performances, Walken would have been a dead cert. He could also claim an assist in the direction, as he helped choreograph the dance.

The song's relentless guitars paired with Adam Horowitz's vein-bulging nasal yells provided a seamless soundtrack as the three Beastie Boys chased, screamed and fought each other across Los Angeles in their tremendous cop-staches and aviators.
Starring Nathan Wind as Cochese! Vic Colfari as Bobby, "The Rookie"!
That there appeared to be a plot that nobody really ever understood behind this frantic detective show parody hardly matters. It was fun to look at, awesome to mosh to, and capable of being enjoyed irony-free despite its ridiculous look and feel because we were in on the joke with the three coolest humans to ever walk the Earth.
'Weapon of Choice', even though I think I probably prefer 'Praise You'. I love 'Sabotage' too, but again it isn't my favourite Beasties effort - that (admittedly rather meaningless) accolade goes to 'Three MCs and One DJ'.
Also, neither of these is anywhere near as good as my favourite Jonze video, The Pharcyde's 'Drop', which inexplicably went out ages ago. _________________ 2021 in full effect. Come drop me some recs. Y'all know what I like.
