A few things about me before I get started. I've been grumpy for about the last 10 months, which coincides with the period I've been unemployed. My apologies to anyone I've pissed off in that time. I'm older than, I think, all of you. Not Naples old, for God's sake, but older. I do listen to new music, but it's not a priority for me. It was once, but as I got older, I realized that I didn't have to jump on new stuff...it would still be there when I got to it. And I do eventually get to it. So I can catch up the best I can on everything else. This is what works for me, and I understand that my way is not necessarily the way for you. I have a system for listening, which you don't want to know about because it's really weird. And I'm not sprucing up for this...this week will be exactly how I normally listen. I own everything here, and I add to it regularly (although faster when I'm working).
Anyway, I hope this helps give some idea of what's going on in my musical head....

Job search for the day, like every day, starts about now. I listen while scouring the interwebs for another employer to send all of my personal information to, only to never hear back from them. Oh, well...one day, my phone will ring. I'll be shocked when it does. It's the silent equivalent of kicking a man when he's down. It was Julianna Hatfield who came up with the line "kick a boy and teach him how to cry". She didn't sound at all like someone who was studying voice at a major music school. She sounded more like a young girl who didn't know how to sing much, but was having a great time doing it. Sunburn is their best album by far, mixing Hatfield's unsteady yet strong vocals with great guitar work from John Strohm on a really great batch of songs. This is one of those albums that I don't listen to a lot...but when I do, it's a treasure. A great way to start off the week.

^^^ Great Pick! I'd bet serious money (if I had it) that BrandoMiaow would LOVE this album. Also, a great consideration for all the twee heads out there (even though it's not twee).

Sorry to hear that, Romanelli, I had a feeling something was up. My grant runs out in 4 months, so I may be in the same boat soon (with a baby coming, no less). Stay strong, brother.

We need the Romanelli types more than new music listeners. You can hang on to the relics of the past that would otherwise be forgotten. Just as important.
How do I not remember this Blake Babies album? Will be listening to this today.

The progression from Blake Babies to Lemonheads is quite natural. Juliana Hatfield is here, John Strohm would be a future member, and Evan Dando was once a Blake Baby. This album has a lot of what makes Sunburn so special: mainly songs. Tough to go wrong with tracks like "Confetti", "My Drug Buddy", "Bit Part" and "Alison's Starting To Happen". Listening to this album makes you think that this might have been one of the most fun bands you could ever hope to be in. "Mrs. Robinson" is a late added bonus track that feels kinda strange alongside the rest. But otherwise, you can't go wrong with this one.
