An art collective from Shreveport created an album with which to introduce themselves. The album cover was a defaced Beatles album cover, and in 1974 it sold only 40 copies. But the Residents kept on going, and developed a following, and now that debut album is well known enough to be in this tournament.

Meet The Residents by The Residents, nominated by Norman Bates.

When the Byrds weren't covering songs by Dylan, or the Bible, they were singing songs written by Roger McGuinn, and this guy, Gene Clark. At least at first. The author of "Eight Miles High" left the band in 1966, teamed up with Doug Dillard, and rejoined the Byrds for a 1973 reunion. No Other is considered his solo masterpiece.

No Other by Gene Clark, nominated by meccalecca.

No Other: One of the best albums ever made! Meet the Residents pales compared to it...

Fuck! Why you gonna do me like this? 2 albums that i've loved madly for a long time, and they couldn't be more different.

I'm not a fan of the indecisiveness. I never abstain either.

I'm not a fan of the children-banging-on-a-piano genre. Gene Clark is much more my kettle of donuts.

Children are magical, inventive and enormously talented.

Meet the Residents is one of the most original albums in music history and should advance to round 2, but I'm throwing my vote to No Other because it's simply one of the most emotionally devastating records I've ever heard, containing one of the greatest songs of the decade/all time.

Meet the residents is what I voted for. Spotted Pinto Bean and the songs afterwards do wonders for me; everything on that album is fun, wacky, and just plain out ear catching. Gene Clark was a nice listen, but I doubt a return visit from will ever happen.
