Hey,

can one of you great music minds help me out here. There must be something that I am missing about this album. BEA has this ranked as the #1 album of the 80's (and I am usually in agreement (somewhat) with the listeners here), but I am just not getting this one.

don't get me wrong, I like the highlights on this album. I see it as decent, and for sure listenable, but I am having a hard time seeing what makes it great. I'm am not sure if there is some sort of conceptual understanding to the music here that I'm just not grasping, or maybe there is just some targeted listening around the album that would help me to understand what I'm missing.

anyways, if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears. I've never been one to fully grasp albums in the first few listens, so that could certainly be playing a part here.

If it was up to me, Surfer Rosa would be in that spot, but both of those albums seem to stand for accessible metal. Surfer Rosa is more low-fi, Doolittle is more produced, so I guess people like accessible well-produced metal music.

I know it isn't technically metal, but then again it's the closest thing to metal I listen to, that's more what I meant.
