Just realized that I've never hyped The Trouser Press and can't recall ever seeing any mention of it here on BEA.
The other Ira of indie rock! Ira A. Robbins is arguably just as influential as the Ira of Yo La Tengo fame on the history of indie rock , and there's no question if there was a hall of fame of indie rock, he'd be a first ballot hall of famer. His fanzine turned encyclopedia The Trouser Press was THE bible for underground rock in the 80s. Succinct & witty reviews with impeccable taste. These two books were essential bathroom reading in my busy professional student life throughout the late 80s/90s...

All these reviews were eventually brought online and can be found here...
Oddly I don't think I've ever read any Trouser Press. Maybe I just assumed it was a zine about pants.
I like that the reviews are straight to the point rather than the excessive books written by many current critics. _________________ http://jonnyleather.com
