I know a lot of people trash on American Idol, but come on. There's got to be a couple who lurk in the shadows of BEA who enjoy the works of one or two AI artists. Not necessarily the winners, but also well known people who were contestants.
Here's a list of AI alumni albums' sales: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_Idol_alumni_album_sales

I like Carrie Underwood well enough, and a little Kelly Clarkson. Jennifer Hudson's pretty awesome. Haven't heard any of their albums.

I'll be damned if I can't get down with some Kelly Clarkson every once and again.

Oh, and Jennifer Hudson, obv. The night she got eliminated was heartbreaking, especially when that John Butthole Stevens character lived on for another week. The system's fucked.

Perhaps understandably, those artists don't really gain much attention on this side of the pond (aside from the odd massive single), but I can never remember a UK equivalent whose music I've enjoyed listening to. It's not (consciously) on principle or anything - it's just that the whole reality TV/singing competition thing exists outside of my sphere of interest. If somebody wants to recommend me something they think I might enjoy, I'm all ears.

I really like everything that Scotty McCreery has put out, and Carrie Underwood is solid!

Oh! Lee DeWyze's fifth album, Frames, is solid!

Literally none of them, far as I know.

Caleb Johnson's "Testify" wasn't that bad. It was a bit generic at times, but he could hold his own. Vocals and backing vocals were both enjoyable.

I'm proud to say that I was watching the first time this ever aired on television.
