  • Post subject: Your Most Anticipated Movies of the Season thread

I know there's a thread like this somewhere, probably several, but I can't be arsed to find it. So yeah I guess with that always hyped summer movie season coming up it seems like a good time to discuss upcoming movies this season you're looking forward to or just vaguely interested in, either way.

Given those big, hyped releases seem to get less interesting each year (how many fucking marvel movies or 80s remakes do we need?), so I kind of look down the alternate rout for the more meat-and-potato movies of the season.

Easily the most anticipated movie personally, despite the squick-y subject matter (and yes Jhereko and Loveless fire those pedo jokes from all directions), is The Diary of a Teenage Girl. Yeah it sounds creepy but it actually (well at least from the snippets shown) looks very promising and I guess was a favorite back at sundance (that's still a thing?), so def high hopes there

Link

And another teenage movie (I know) actually looks pretty promising as well, Me & The Earl & The Dying Girl, sort of a Spectacular Now-ish vibe at least in style

Link

And generally am not a fan of biopics but Im very interested to see what they do with Straight Outta Compton.

Link

(can I post red-band trailers?)

The past few years Ive kind of given up on the Apatow Co but Trainwreck does look semi-promising- or could be awful who knows but anyhoos

Link

And The Overnight def sounds like the kind of HIpster-doofus project that's really common around this time of year, but I have to say I am very intrigued by what could possibly go down when you put Max Fischer, Piper Chapman and Ben Wyatt in a movie at the same time. And hey Seattle

Link

And I guess there's the new pixar, even though the company has seemed to lost steam in recent years but at least now there releasing movie with a genuinely cool, original idea, no sequels to their lesser films or firing of directors (here's looking at you Brave), so Inside Out could be... okay. Or better. Or worse. I donno judge for yourself.

Link

And dare I say it but The Wolfpack sounds eerily similar to BEA Mr. Green only with movies

Link

And for all those that liked the Act of Killing there's a companion piece coming out in The Look of Silence

Link

And for one blockbuster I admit I am actually a huge Terminator nerd, even loved The Sarah Conner Chronicles but am more than a bit pessimistic on the possibility here for the new movie. That christian bale-led flick a few years back was like eating an odorless pile of cow dung, and some of the casting choices in this one are very questionable (Khaeelisi is def kick ass but there's absolutely nothing about Emilia Clark that screams Everywoman appeal (a neccessity for the Sarah Conner role), so really have no idea what to make of it. And the trailer looks.... eh to bleh. Guess time will tell.

So yeah that's just a small sample here, so everybody who's got other movies there dying to see or just wanna discuss upcoming releases yap away. I know none of these movies will be able to match the certainly subtle brilliance of Ted 2, but they should still all be quite fetching.

(And Applerill try not to share full reviews you've written of movies that you have not seen)

Straight Outta Compton, Me and Earl and The Dying Girl and Inside Out are also on my list Smile I'll be checking out the rest of your list though.

I just saw The Clouds of Sils Maria, which was ok, but there's a handful of albums I'm looking forward to this year.

Brooklyn, Snowden, Trumbo, Steve Jobs, The Hateful Eight, Suffragette, The Revenant, The Danish Girl, Genius, MacBeth, Miles Ahead, The Walk and The Good Dinosaur are all films I'm looking forward to.

There's a few others that I might check out if they turn out to look interesting. Joy, Demolition, The Sea of Trees, Carol and Bridge of Spies would probably go under that category..
