Music nerd colonies are dominated by males. On websites such as this, females are almost nowhere to be seen. Of course there are women who appreciate music, though most music fanatics around are men.

My question to you is: why is this?

Sites like this, RYM etc. aren't the best for a demographic of all music nerds because you're missing bigger pictures elsewhere. Maybe a lot of the females just don't use sites like these but others or like Spotify/YouTube? I just think you're generalizing without significant evidence to back yourself up.
This thread's near future definitely will not be bright.

Perhaps you're right, and there are certainly bands out there that are more appreciated by girls than boys.

Why is this thread's future not bright?

Threads with subject matters similar to these tend to turn into chaotic shitstorm arguments about misogyny, I remember I think some threads here like this that did that

Men are more likely to display "anorak"-esque behaviour, not just when it comes to music but to just about anything. One of the main symptoms of autism is an obsession with a "special interest" (often autistic children can talk for extended periods of time about their special interest without even expecting or wanting a "normal", conversational response - popular special interests include dinosaurs or pop culture phenomena such as Pokemon or Lego), and autism has of course been referred to as "excessive male-ism". Eight out of nine autistic people are men; fourteen out of fifteen people with Asperger's syndrome are men. It's something to do with genetics that I quite frankly don't understand. But since males are far, far more likely to show symptoms of autism, one of which is an obsessive, "anorak"-esque tendency, it makes sense that sites such as this one (dedicated to a niche "special interest", and list-making in particular) should be largely populated by males.

There's nothing sexist about acknowledging there are less girls around who are obsessive about music than boys, obsession with music is not objectively good or bad.

At universities, female music nerds definitely do exist, and they're just as good of a resource as anyone on BEA. They just don't normally have the obsessive-compulsive need to catalog their (supposed) knowledge about said music nerddom. They talk about Mark Kozalek and Swans at parties while we stay home talking about them on 4chan.

I do somewhat agree, and this is the only reason I can see why this is the case with most nerdisms. Girls seem to have more balanced interests and boys seem more focused in on fewer things.
