Most of the time, the best way to sell an albums is for it's packaging, rather than the actually music. I wasn't around at the time, but I understand in the 70's and 80's people bought records almost just due to the album cover, and friends recommending it. Now that it's the download era, I don't know many people who actually buy compact discs, unless it has a cool packaging. In the last few years, Kanye's Fantasy and Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavalon have ad cool packaging, but I'll try to think of some more later.Just wondering what your favourite album packaging is. 😜

I remember buying Iron Maiden and Kiss albums, not only because of the covers, but they were really cool to an early teenage boy. I even bought Maiden singles because of the covers, and when No Prayer for the Dying came out in red vinyl...that was the day.

Radiohead - In Rainbows & Deluxe Editions of the first 6 albums (especially HTTF)
Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero - FBI Warning and all
The Cure - Join The Dots - just the information crammed into the box set with the 4 discs was brilliant.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Andy Warhol and the Velvet Underground 'peel slowly and see' banana sleeve.

as far as packaging, you can't miss Public Image Ltd's 'Metal Box' or Jane's Addiction's 'Nothing's Shocking.'

As far as covers, I really love Since I Left You, Unknown Pleasures, Technique, The Blue Mask/Transformer, and Strawberry Jam.

And GARY, you missed Roxy Music's 'Country Life'
