got tired of 80s alternative and am now switching my attention to dubstep; anyone have not just suggestions, but "essential dubstep albums?" (I'm looking for you to come through, Naples)
All I've got is Burial- Untrue and some singles from Digital Mystiks and Pinch, so pretty much anything goes...
Burial-Untrue-2007
Distance-My Demons-2007
Horsepower Productions-In Fine Style-2002
Kode9-Memories of the Future-2006
Pinch-Underwater Dancehall-2007
Shackleton and Appleblim-Soundboy Punishments-2007
Skream-Skream!-2006
I sorta loathe dubstep for the most part, but Crooks and Loversby Mount Kimbie is pretty great. _________________ I love all music. It makes you feel like living. Silence is death.
Check out the 'CMYK' EP by James Blake, 'Gonna Work Out Fine' EP by Untold, and artists like Fantastic Mr Fox, Mount Kimbie, Bangatang, Whistla, Mala, Horsepower Productions (their first album), early Benga, Skream (who knows nothing of quality control, but much of quality), Hyetal, Short Stuff, Ikonika (she has an album out on the Hyperdub label I believe), Guido's album 'Anidea', Terror Danjah's 'Gremlinz' album (actually a compilation of instrumentals). The best starting point though is the 2-disc '5 Years of Hyperdub' compilation.
I am extremely excited about the release of the Night Slugs label's first compilation, 'Night Slugs Allstars vol. 1', including Girl Unit's 'Wut'. Buy it!
