Lorca by far. One of the all time "rock" masterpieces.

Probably the most far out album that is a masterpiece (meaning it is absolutely, unequivecally worth purchasing) would be Twin Infinitives by Royal Trux (1990). Also the greatest album of the 90's in my opinion. But be warned, it is very experimental and very out there. If you don't have foothold in avant-garde jazz (especially Coltrane's Ascension, Taylor's Unit Structures), or the likes of Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart, Parable of Arable Land by Red Crayola, Y by Pop Group, and Tago Mago by Can, it may be a rough go.

If you want to ascend a list of out-there masterpieces, just check out my greatest albums chart. Faust's debut is another prime candidate (#5).

You know, I really like Tales From Topographic Oceans. It repelled me initially but ultimately it made me a big fan of Yes. Close to the Edge cannot be denied but otherwise it may be my favourite Yes album. Still I prefer the Tim Buckley masterpiece (one of a handful)

If you want to hear some crazy prog and psych albums check out the following

Gentle Giant - Octopus
Van Der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts
Comus - First Utterance
The Incredible String Band - The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter

If you're interested in rock albums with an avant-garde or at least eccentric bent, Scaruffi's implicitly-aforementioned list of 9.5/10 and 9/10-rated albums is a good place to start. The Doors, The Good Son and The River are pop albums that strike me as being out of place on that list, so be warned, but the rest are worth hearing if this discussion has aroused any interest in his list. I really don't care for Nail but I guess it fits too.

Definatley Lorca, Yes has never really struck me and Tim is one of the all time best singer/songwriters.
