The RnR Hall of Fame announced the class of 2016 inductees.
Deep Purple
Cheap Trick
NWA
Steve Miller
Chicago
For what it's worth, there are deserving artists here like the long overdue Deep Purple. But once again, does it matter? Or should it matter? Obviously it in no way affects the music itself, but do any of you care that a certain artist was inducted while another was snubbed?
It's something that has always kind of interested me, especially in the case of Rush, but once they were inducted (and I graduated high school) I stopped caring so much. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.
Only good artist there, also why does anyone care about the R&RHOF anymore
Not a DP fan? And that's basically what I'm asking. I want to care still, but I really don't. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.
is it an actual hallway and like they put up pictures or whatever?
Having been there, it's honestly kind of surreal.
There's huge exhibits, there's a big chunk that's just a sort of "timeline of music" that's full of really cool things, there's a random pillar in honor of Joy Division and New Order that Bono donated some stuff to IIRC, Pink Floyd's "The Wall" set takes up the whole upper level, it's a famous building from the outside, and there's some interesting interactive stuff on the inside.
But the actual hall is bizarre. Cuz there is an actually little hallway where they have the signatures of every member of every band in there etched into metal.
It's incredibly campy, I wasn't allowed to take pictures (in fact, the only things that you could take pictures of were the traveling exhibit of clothing including Gaga's jerky dress and The Wall), and it's sort of in the same room that they use to show movies in so you can't actually really talk about it.
If you actually dig into any of the interactive stuff, too, it gets bizarre. Like there's a list of the most influential songs ever in rock, which goes against the list on their website, and doesn't make any sense - there's repeats and very few actual members of the rock and roll hall of fame. At least when I was there, a large portion of the entire was taken up with hanging Moby advertisements for an old tour.
It was a cool day because the other travelling exhibit was on the Beatles, so I got to nerd out hard, but really, it was just a strange experience. Much preferred the EMP in Seattle. _________________

I guess the only thing that can be said about NWA is that if Public Enemy and Grandmaster Flash are in, they need to be too. _________________ Attention all planets of the solar federation: We have assumed control.

Uh, no that's not the only thing that can be said about NWA. They're one of the most influencial Hip-Hop groups ever and were at the birth of the West Coast scene. Don't really know where I'm going with this, but to just dismiss them when praising an artist like Cheap Trick is laughable.
