I'd have to go with Daydream Nation, but Sister is nearly as good.

Had to go Daydream Nation, but if it had been an option I might have gone with Rather Ripped. Incinerate is my favorite SY song and the guitar tones on that album are just beautiful.

Weirdly if I made a list of my 5 favorite songs none of them would be on Daydream Nation, but that album is somehow both the most cohesive and sprawling thing they've done.

The most interesting thing about this thread is how the only two people participating so far feel obligated to vote for an album - the same of course. Very puzzling indeed.

It's because nobody wants to be the unoriginal hack that admits they chose Daydream Nation, but I decided to take the shame.

Daydream Nation, though I'm not terribly infatuated with any of them. I enjoy it whenever it's on, but I never find myself actively wanting to listen to it.

Naturally, Daydream Nation is going to run away with it, but I'll always have a soft spot for Murray Street.

I was only obligated by the fact that it's my favorite of the bunch. The fact that it's commonly viewed as their masterpiece made it an unoriginal pick and I wanted to contribute more to the thread than asserting what Rolling Stone and every other music publication and blog has said. I certainly wasn't compelled to do anything and simply chose my words poorly. I hoped to do better by shouting out an entry in their discography that's rarely mentioned but it seems a coincidence has prevented that. Shame.

if only Antonio was here...

Anyway, I'm boring and think Daydream Nation is the undeniable masterpiece in Sonic Youth's stellar discography.

I also really like Rather Ripped, I would certainly put it up there in my top 5 SY albums. I used to go for Sister and only changed my mind to Daydream Nation once I bought that on vinyl. I used to find it a bit long winded on CD but having those little breaks turning the record over just refreshes the mind / ears. Same goes for most double / Triple / whatever albums they're just so much easier and enjoyable to absorb on vinyl.
