Voted for threne. Though that wasn't that fantastic. Venom are legendary and one of the most influential metal bands ever. But they couldn't play ha. They are from just over the river from me. Influential or not, I didn't enjoy it that much, was ok.

I've never been a huge fan of early heavy metal like Dio and Judah Priest and the like, so I wasn't expecting to like Venom much. I also first got into black metal through the more "depressive" stuff like Threne, so I thought this would be a clear choice.

However, I was very wrong. Threne didn't do much for me that other similar albums haven't done, and the Venom album kicks all kinds of ass. I love the bad production as it fits perfectly with the lyrical themes. Vote to Venom.

Venom has all of that Discharge and Motorhead influence in spades with gritty production and a hopelessness that is really hard to beat.

I nominated Threne for this tournament. And this because I think it is a good album of its kind and that it deserves to be discovered and appreciated by those who can. I gave It my vote obviously. Not because I am his nominator, but simply because I like It more than Welcome to Hell (which is not bad, but not really in my taste).

This one's actually close for me. Having heard Venom before I went in thinking the other album had a shot to win if it was as great as an album that's in this tournament should be. So I listened to Threne first and really, really enjoyed it. Then I listened to Welcome to Hell and it was, while not technically as great, was more fun than I ever remember it being. I guess due to the fact that my inner horror buff is still in full gear I'm going for the darker, grittier, more Satanic album. But this was definitely the toughest decision I've made out of the three matches I've done so far.

More likely Discharge has the Venom influence? Anyway i find strange the use of the word "hopelessness" since i find Venom's music just funny and kinda carefree in a way.

However, while i admire Venom for their influence and historical value, i'm not too much into them. But WTH is my favourite work and i like it. As i said it's not much my thing, but it's just entertaining and funny, and pretty consistent too.

As for Threne, which was totally unknown to me, i like the style (like the double bass, like the vocals and all), and there were a few excellent moments (more in the second half), but overall a bit too much static, and i think it lasts too long for what it has to say. Also it didnt leave that much of a depressive feeling on me, which was its primary purpose i suppose.

So i prefer WTH, but only slightly. Would've been different if it was Black Metal or At War.

No. Considering Discharge was recording all the way up to 1979, and it is abundantly clear Discharge (and Crust Punk in general) is a central influence of thrash and speed metal bands that were developing at the time of which Venom is included it is not the other way around.
